The Nobel Peace Prize Is No Longer Credible
To my knowledge, the Nobel Peace Prize is supposed to go to people that have made achievements in the perpetuation of world peace. Apparently, though, this is not the case. For the last couple of days, I have been dumbstruck at the prospect that Obama received this honor. It boggles the mind of myself and many others how this could have happened. It is not about the nurturing of peace anymore, that is certain. I have heard that it was about the campaign rhetoric that was used, seeing as he was nominated after only twelve days in office, but I am leaning more toward the explanation that Ron Paul gave on this one. It’s all about internationalism. I am opposed to world government in any way, shape, or form. This leaves no room for self-government and self-ownership, which is what today’s world is lacking. I am not so sure that government is absolutely necessary, but anarchism is a school of thought that I am becoming much more comfortable with, especially after getting over the common misconceptions. I need to read more about it, but I like a lot of the ideas behind it. Most notably, those of self-government and self-ownership. The Constitution was supposed to be based on these concepts, yet the people of this country have veered a far cry from this point. But I digress.
The point I am trying to make is that if the Nobel Peace Prize committee is not committed to spreading peace and is willing to nominate someone based on campaign rhetoric and award said person based on unkept promises, warmongering, and furthering global governance, they have turned themselves into nothing but a joke in my humble opinion. This decision has removed any and all credibility that they once held in the minds of many.
